The Kickoff

This past Friday, as our bellies were full of satisfaction from Thanksgiving, a group of Sitkans ventured up Verstovia to kickoff the Baranof Blizzard Bonanza, the Winter Extravaganza of the century. The weather did not cooperate with us, but then again when does it ever. Around 15 Bonanzians went up Verstovia with their snowboards, sleds, snowshoes, shovels, and a dog. We even had a Bonanzian fly in from Idaho. Snowballs the size of cars, igloo making, snowboarding and even some avalanche 101 were only some of the fun events that occurred up in the snowy bowl of Verstovia. The day was perfect and I even heard that some ended it with some ice cream, pretty much a Baranof Blizzard Bonanza must. The next scheduled event is for Saturday December 6 at 9:00 A.M. As the holiday season nears closer and closer some of us want to decorate our homes. So we thought it would be a great idea to venture in the woods out off of Indian River Trail and find some appropriate trees to cut down. This is all legal so do not worry about anything not being legit. But this event will be too legit to quit, hey.... hey. And even if you do not want to cut down trees it will be nice to be outside enjoying mother nature. So meet at the Indian River Trail head around 9 A.M. on Saturday morning and plan on a candilious afterwards..... that is not a joke. Keep checking this website for updates on next events and other plans for the Bonanza. And if anyone ever has suggestions about the Bonanza or events or has some pictures to share email BaranofBlizzardBonanza@hotmail.com. And until next time, have some fun outside.

-I was able to capture this photo of a rare abdominal snowman near the peak of Verstovia, be careful up there.
